India is a poor country, with per capita income under $2,000 a year. It's not a luxury market, like China, Brazil, Russia and the advanced economies. But it is a consumer staples market. With 1.2 billion people getting richer every year, multinationals and local Indian firms are finding new growth opportunities in health and beauty and telecom. Investors can get in on some of the action. Many of the big brand names are owned by companies trading on the NYSE.
